DONALD AIMS TO UPGRADE KIUNGA DISTRICT HOSPITAL TO A REFERRAL HOSPITAL

The Member for North Fly and Vice Minister for Mining and Border Development, at the recent 44th graduation of Rumginae School of Nursing said he has already secured funding to rebuild the Kings District Hospital.

According to the local MP, the funding will be used to purchase the very important life saving equipment, which will compete with the Port Moresby General Hospital, Lae’s Angau Hospital, Pacific International Hospital and the Kundiawa hospital.

He mentioned that once these life saving equipment are purchased, there will be no need to send patients to seek treatment outside, but these life saving services will be provide for the people right at their doorsteps.

Mr. Donald further called on the Western Provincial Health Authority (WPHA) to step up, join hands with the North Fly DDA to create more job opportunities for the graduates passing out of Rumginae.

He also assured the Western Provincial Health Authority that whatever programs they are rolling out in North Fly, the North Fly DDA will always step in and assist.

Donald also plans to increase the salary for Health Staffs and Teaching Staffs who serve in remote areas of North Fly because they need it more than the staff in towns.

SECURING FALL BACK PLAN THROUGH AGRICULTURE AFTER OK TEDI MINE

Second term North Fly Open MP and Vice Minister for Mining and Border Issues Hon.James Donald has ensured his people are economically resilient when the giant Ok Tedi gold and copper mine in his district of Western Province ceases operation in due time.

The People’s Reform Party (PRP) founder and parliamentary leader has commercialised the production of rice and rubber in his first term in office (2017-2022) and is well ahead into the commercialisation of vanilla farming with the establishment of the Controlled Estate Fly Vanilla project at Samagos in the Kiunga Rural LLG which is nearly into its final stages with the necessary infrastructures and transplanting of vanilla vines.

“So far 8,500 cuttings planted for both nursery and green houses. 10,000 more cuttings will be nurtured and transplanted in the next 2 months,” revealed Donald.

The Agriculturist turned politician said that the formal commissioning of the project is anticipated around May or June later this year with the exact date yet to be confirmed by all parties concerned.

“Return on Investment ( ROI) in agriculture isn’t seen quickly but it pays off when it’s correctly done and picks up,” Donald stressed.

The second term MP is concerned about the life after the Ok Tedi mine closes which he admits concerns only a few leaders as he doesn’t want the people to be economically fragile but must have agriculture as their financial security.

“Big thank you to West Agro Holdings, Ok Tedi Development Foundation, OTML, Innovative Agro Industry, Fly River Provincial Government and North Fly District Development Authority (NFDDA) and the people for strong partnership we’ve began,” concluded Donald.

Nationally known as THE REFORMIST, Vice Minister Donald has prioritised the commercialisation of agriculture in his electorate in his first term in office and is continuing because land is the most valuable asset his people own individually.

The Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) commenced mining operations in 1984, initially as a gold mine to exploit the gold-rich cap on the Mt. Fubilan deposit, and then as a copper-gold mine in 1987 for the bulk of the ore body continuing today and has steadily supported the country’s economy annually.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOCUSES ON EXPANSION

The Waipu Elementary School is a special government institution situated along the border of two districts in Enga Province.

The staff and students of this only government institution in this village are forever grateful for the assistance coming in from Tewae-Siassi MP and Housing Minister Hon.Dr Kobby Bomareo and North Fly Open MP and Vice Minister for Mining and Border Issues Hon James Donald MP.

The financial assistance from the national leaders will be used to replace the semi permanent classroom that houses the preparatory and elementary classes.

Additional infrastructures will be built to cater for the school status change from an elementary level into a primary school starting next year.

With many school aged children displaced during the year long political tribal related tribal warfare in the nearby Kompaim Ambum district, the expansion of Waipu Elementary School is timely as elementary and primary schools in the affected district were all burnt down placing pressure on this educational institution.

The village of Waipu is known as THE PROMISE LAND which will provide refugee and a safe haven for school aged children starting next year.

Waipu village borders the nearby Ambum LLG with the Ambum River dividing the Wabag District from the Kompiam Ambum District of which the Wabag District Development Authority (WDDA) recently built a bridge joining Waipu village with these two districts.

The staff, students and board of the Waipu Elementary School sincerely acknowledge Hon.Dr.Kobby Bomareo and Hon.James Donald for giving their hearts not only to the people of the Wabag Open Electorate but also to the people of the Kompiam Ambum Open Electorate in Enga Province as education is a generational investment.
